The Johnson was born in 1938 as The Heights Casino Open Squash Doubles Tournament. In 1965 it was renamed in memory of David C. Johnson Jr.,
a nationally ranked singles and doubles player who won the tournament with fellow member Victor Elmaleh in 1963. It is the oldest and most
prestigious hard-ball doubles tournament in the world, and draws professionals from all over the United States as well as from Europe, Canada
and Mexico. Now played under the auspices of the International Squash Doubles Association ISDA, "The Johnson" represents an important part of
the total tour prize money, which has now reached over $400,000, generating serious interest among professional squash players worldwide.
